Safety and Sustainability

At Black Hills Adventure Tours we care about the amazing place we get to call home. The Black Hills and surrounding areas are a beautiful depiction of the unique work of Mother Nature. We want everyone for generations to come to explore and appreciate the beauty of this area. This is why Black Hills Adventure Tours makes safety and sustainability a top priority on all our outdoor excursions.

When you are on your tour please be respectful to not only your tour guides, but the area you inhabit as well. By following our simple rules, we can all have a safe, enjoyable journey while protecting and preserving the Black Hills.

Safety:

Black Hills Adventure Tours works with the Black Hills Forest Service, Custer state Park and the Badlands to make sure we have permits for all our tours and they are insured. You can have peace of mind knowing you are traveling with a professional that takes your safety and your families’ safety very seriously. All tour guides are CPR, First Aid and Wilderness First Aid trained.

Be Aware:

It’s important to be aware of a few things while you are out enjoying the beautiful Black Hills. One thing a lot of people don’t realize when they are in the Black Hills is that the elevation can reach 6,000 feet or more, depending on where you venture. It’s important to stay hydrated, and if you are hiking or biking remember to move at a comfortable pace. The Black Hills and surrounding areas are home to thousands of plant and insect species, so if you have allergies to such things stay aware of your surroundings

Leave No Trace:

The beauty and deep cultural history are what draw people to the Black Hills so please remember to leave no trace wherever you go. This means, basically, leave nothing behind. All of the trail-heads and picnic areas in the Black Hills have garbage cans. Please use them! If you are enjoying an area of the hills that is off the beaten path and there are no trash receptacles, bring any trash back to your vehicle. This also applies to the landscape itself – please do not alter anything (for example, don’t break the branches of a bush to create a pathway).

Take Only Pictures:

Leave Wildlife alone:

The Black Hills are home to a large variety of wildlife species. While this wildlife is beautiful to admire, it is important to remember they can be very territorial. Please maintain a safe distance away from all animals you encounter and never feed any wildlife. By leaving wildlife alone, we can help ensure these species continue to thrive in this area.
